Fendi "Peek a boo"

i really like the Fendi spring 09 totes i featured on my blog some times ago here.
i love that this tote that somehow reminded me of something from Hermès
and i just find out that the official name of this bag is "peek a boo"
i have a feeling i'm going to post a lot of this bag in the future.

but what i'm waiting the most is this

Marni "Bag with circle handles"

Marni always have the yummiest pebbled leather. this bag would be perfect for me if the handles is wearable on the shoulder

Marni "Double Balloon Bag"

Is Marni trying to make an LV version of Saumur bag?
well, although i think the colour is absolute stunner, but i have mixed feeling about this bag.
i can imagine this bag going really fat when you fill both sides with stuffs

Turquoise drawstring balloon bag in soft nappa leather, bag is connected by poppers along the middle that can separate to create two bags, each with a single handle and drawstring pocket, one pocket sits on the lining of one side of the double bag, leather drawstring ties, 100% Leather

Zagliani "Lizard skin envelope bag"

My second favourite exotic skin after crocodile is lizard and this bag is so pretty!
what i love about lizard is that it has the same characteristic with crocodile but of course with smaller scales and therefore make a bag looks less fierce :p

Brown lizard skin envelope bag, chain link handle, a flap covers the main opening with a twist fastening, a zip fastening pocket sits on the lining, 100% Lizard skin, twist fastening, chain link strap

Balenciaga "Two-tone crocodile bag"

This bag drives me crazy! the croc leather looks so soft and strong yet elegant.
the mark down sale is not helping though, although it's like 50%, but still the number is way beyond my willingness to splurge for a bag

Letter from Reader #2

Subject : Lanvin Happy Sac - Stamped

Hi,

I have been browsing at this bag for a couple of months and is now thinking of buying it.
To my sadness I can't find it neither on mytheresa or brownsfashion.
I live in Sweden (Europe), so I guess that the closest place would be London or Paris.
Do you know any boutique that you can recommend in London or Paris?
I would never forgave myself if this bag turns out to be sold out every where :-(

Thanks in advanced!

Best Regards
Lan

Letter from Reader #1

As i got some letters from readers with questions on opinion of a bag, i think that it would be nice if i can post the questions and my opinion on this blog as well so people with the same questions can read it and maybe can give their thoughts too.

so, i think i'll start with this letter i receive today.

Hello, I'm going to purchase my first bag by a premier designer, and would like some advice on which ones to consider.
Id like a black basic everyday hobo or satchel. I'm very fond of the spy-bag look, but it is out of my price range. I am considering
Gucci medium hysteria tote, or Jockey hobo. I like the gold hardware. I also like the Balenciaga bags, Medium size and Jimmy Choo and Chloe bags.

What would you recommend for a first bag in the under $2k range?
I love your blog!
Thanks.

Missy McKesson

Dear Missy,

hi :)
oooh i love black bags. from what i read from your letter, personally i vote for the balenciaga from your options.
if you like gold hardware i would say the black balenciaga city with giant gold hardware is a great choice!
what i love about this bag is that the bag say "elegant" and at the same time give a rock n roll feel to it.
it says that you're modern, daring, simple but also trendy.
and the longer strap option is a big help when you want to carry it in a more relax way.
i like that the quality of the leather and it's one of the bag that'll turn more pretty the more you use them.
i also like YSL bags personally, you can pick from the downtown, muse and besace depends on your personality but IMO all of them are great.
if you happen to dress more elegant and want to carry the bag in a formal situations, the muse is the best choice whereas the downtown and besace are more "relax" and "young" looking.

so, let me what you think of these bags :)
and thank you for your letter

Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton (2001)

Since the soon to be released neon graffiti line is filling my blog pages, i think it'll be nice to go back to memory lane for some of you who are familiar and have the collection, also for those who's not too familiar with the previous collection

Back in Spring/Summer 2001, Louis Vuitton collaborate with the late Stephen Sprouse for a line that's called Graffiti line.
and since he died on 2004, now they "modified" his late works and call it "Louis Vuitton for Stephen Sprouse" instead of the late "Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton" project in 2001.

The original collaboration has its origins in the time when Jacobs was looking for a Paris apartment. When he looked at Charlotte Gainsbourg’s space on the rue du Bac, he stumbled across a Vuitton Monogram canvas trunk, which the actress’s legendary father, Serge, had painted over in black. It eventually inspired him to collaborate with Sprouse for spring 2001. “For me, this monogram graffiti was the first milestone of our permanent reinvention of our history,” said Vuitton president and chief executive officer Yves Carcelle

Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton part 2

click here for the previous post

by Amanda Kaiser
Friday December 05, 2008
From WWD.com

Sofia Coppola is making her directorial debut- in terms of handbags and shoes that is.

Five years after she paid tribute to this city in her Oscar-winning film “Lost in Translation,” Coppola is back to unveil her line of accessories for Louis Vuitton, consisting of slouchy duffle bags, discreet clutches and retro wedge sandals. She and Vuitton are feting the collaboration with a party here Friday night at Château Restaurant Joël Robuchon. The collection will hit stores in March.

Coppola said the collaboration took shape during a visit to the custom orders department at Vuitton’s factory in Asnieres, France. “To start with I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection,” she told WWD. “My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag. It fits all your things but isn’t too big and isn’t too heavy.”

The director said she opted for a classic sensibility rather than anything trend-driven. “I wanted a bag that I could use every day that was coming from the heritage of Louis Vuitton’s great leather goods, not connected to the fashion side of the brand,” Coppola said, adding that she spent about a year working with LV artisans to get things just right. “We went through a lot of prototypes but it was fun. It was always exciting to get a new one and I would try them out and add things.”

The fruit of that labor, the SC Bag, comes in four versions: one in dark gray suede, two in calf leather in dark blue and burgundy and one in LV’s signature monogram canvas.

For evening, Coppola designed four slender compact clutches with buckles resembling the closure on Vuitton’s classic trunks. Coppola said she thought of Lauren Hutton, one of her “fashion heroines” when designing a slightly larger version of the clutch in LV monogram canvas.

Coppola also channeled the seventies when it came to designing her take on the peep-toe wedge sandal. She was eager to craft “a heel you can really wear all night and it’s comfortable but still looks chic,” she said.

Madonna for Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 campaign

Honestly, i'm not feeling it :(
i think i'm getting subjective because i'm tired with madonna, and the first posed with the leg up, come on. it's tiring! she's not the only 50 yrs old who can do so, and isn't it enough done on her show and all, why must repeat it again here?

Posted Thursday December 04, 2008
From WWD Issue 12/04/2008

MADONNA AND MARC: When Marc Jacobs found himself in a meeting on a recent Monday morning to brainstorm about Louis Vuitton’s next fashion advertising campaign, inspiration struck. “I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’” said the designer, Vuitton’s creative director, mentioning he’d attended a concert by the pop icon the night before in Paris. “I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.”

As the meeting went on, Jacobs tapped out a message to Madonna on his BlackBerry, and within about five minutes came the reply: “I’d love to.”

The result is six atmospheric pictures of a smoldering Madonna by Steven Meisel that will break in a range of fashion magazines in February. “It’s a big change from what we were doing. It tells a story,” said Antoine Arnault, Vuitton’s director of communications. “This I think is an amazing coup, but more than that, there’s real logic behind it. It’s very linked to Marc’s fashion show.”

Although Arnault declined to give figures, he said media budgets for the fashion campaign would be on par with a year ago. And he dismissed as “absurd” reports pegging Madonna’s fees at $10 million. “It’s very far away from that,” he assured.

The campaign marks the end of Vuitton’s six-year collaboration with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, with the parting characterized as amicable, and another reunion for long-time collaborators Madonna and Meisel. Jacobs last worked with Meisel in his Perry Ellis days. (Arnault noted it’s “very probable” Vuitton’s association with Meisel will continue.)

The campaign takes the very Parisian theme of Jacobs’ hit spring Vuitton collection, with a smoky French bistro the setting, and the sepia-toned images evoking a Brassai atmosphere. “As cliché as they are, I love all these French references,” the designer said. (Although the restaurant, Figaro, is on North Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles).

“I still feel it looks like beautiful, gorgeous Madonna,” Jacobs said about the images. “Excepting the references and excepting the clichés, this still feels very today. And it didn’t feel so much like a fashion shoot, it feels like portraits.”

The shoot wrapped up in less than a day and without incident, although Jacobs said hordes of paparazzi literally “appeared out of the bushes” the moment Madonna arrived. “It went from a quiet street to complete chaos,” he said.

The designer also marveled at the singer’s incredible fitness that allowed her to recline, her back arched, on bentwood chairs, or shoot a leg straight up in the air, no sweat. “She’s so sure of herself as an icon and as a woman. It was her idea to do the fishnets,” Jacobs said. “What fascinates me the most about her is her never-ending energy, and the idea of becoming and changing. She’s an artist who’s unafraid to use her voice.”

Arnault said the fashion campaign would appear “very strongly” in February and March issues and with few changes in media placements. “We’re staying on target,” he stressed.

The first visuals will spotlight slouchy bags in monogram canvas and monogram-embossed leather, along with ethnic-inspired sandals, bangles and sexy ready-to-wear. In tandem, Vuitton will continue to run its “core values” campaign, with spots featuring Sean Connery, the latest celebrity spokesman, continuing into next year. Analysts have estimated Vuitton spends more than $250 million annually on advertising, most of it print-driven.

Vuitton Brings Back Sprouse

NEW YORK — Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton are paying homage to Stephen Sprouse.

To show their admiration for the late designer and artist, next month, Jacobs, Vuitton’s creative director, is using his hit 2001 collaboration with Sprouse for a new, limited edition collection of accessories and ready-to-wear. Jacobs even doffed his duds again, posing in the nude painted in Sprouse’s graffiti for Harper’s Bazaar’s January issue.

This comes at a time of renewed buzz about Sprouse, whose graffiti prints and Day-Glo clothes became a defining aesthetic of the early Eighties. It coincides with a retrospective — called “Rock on Mars” — at Deitch Projects’ 18 Wooster Street gallery from Jan. 8 to Feb. 28, and “The Stephen Sprouse Book,” by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha, due out from Rizzoli New York on Feb. 1.

The impetus for the new line came when Deitch approached Jacobs and Vuitton about doing something related to the retrospective.

“I proposed putting together a Vuitton version of the Pop Shop, which was Keith Haring’s concept…not reissuing products that we had done with Stephen, but doing things that were similar or new,” Jacobs said.

Sprouse died in 2004, and the new tribute pieces, which hit Vuitton boutiques worldwide Jan. 9, pick up almost seamlessly where the 2001 collaboration left off.

Jacobs took two iconic Sprouse motifs — the graffiti and the rose — and interpreted them in Day-Glo shades of pink, green and orange over the Monogram print. The motifs are featured on Vuitton’s Keepall, Speedy and Neverfull bag styles, as well as basketball sneaker boots, pumps, sunglasses, headbands and wristbands, and small leather goods like wallets and coin purses. The rtw includes a mackintosh raincoat with a graffiti and monogram lining, graffiti leggings and a long-sleeve neon minidress featuring the rose design.

“I tried to take what Stephen had done at Vuitton and then kind of flip it in my head, and make it Vuitton’s work for Stephen, not Stephen’s work for Vuitton,” Jacobs said. “I just felt it was a funny way to play with it, to pretend to be Sprouse for a bit, and use the work that he did, and then bring it back to the work that he did before I collaborated with him.”

“For me, this monogram graffiti was the first milestone of our permanent reinvention of our history,” said Vuitton president and chief executive officer Yves Carcelle.

The uncompromising, head-to-toe Sprouse aesthetic is timeless, Jacobs noted.

“It almost becomes a classic, like a Chanel jacket, or a smoking,” he said. “It’s this idea of a head-to-toe look in this brash, neon, rock ’n’ roll, edgy, street-informed style. Sprouse really best personified it.”

Vuitton will pay further tribute with a special Web site — welovesprouse.com — slated to go live Dec. 15. It will feature a mix of interviews with people who knew Sprouse, including Debbie Harry, Candy Pratts Price and Patricia Field. In the clips, they muse on their relationship with Sprouse, and his lasting influence on the fashion and art worlds. There will also be a feature called “Scrawl the Wall,” where visitors can post comments, and a special section on Sprouse’s New York, highlighting some of the artist’s favorite haunts in the city.

“The thing that excited us the most is that somebody who disappeared years ago is going to be the center of life worldwide thanks to that for the next few months,” Carcelle said. “We really want to celebrate a friend.”

As for the Harper’s Bazaar story, it was shot by Terry Richardson and features Jacobs naked, his body painted in Sprouse-style graffiti and his relevant portions covered by one of the new Vuitton bags. Richardson also shot racier images of Jacobs completely in the nude, though these will not be featured in the Bazaar story.

“I don’t have a problem taking my clothes off, as anybody who has picked up a magazine in the past year could tell you,” Jacobs said. “I had no qualms or shame about it but knew fully well that any full frontal nudity wouldn’t be appropriate for Harper’s Bazaar.”
